India hosts BIMSTEC Young Leaders’ Summit in Guwahati [15 Sep 2025]
India hosted the BIMSTEC Young Leaders’ Summit in Guwahati from September 9–11, bringing together over 80 participants from all member countries of the regional grouping to discuss inclusive leadership and cross-cultural collaboration. The summit, organised in association with Bharat Scouts & Guides, was inaugurated by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya. Participants represented a wide cross-section of society, including political, business, socio-cultural and civil society leaders.

Bairabi-Sairang railway line inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi [14 Sep 2025]
The inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, Mizoram has now been officially connected to the country’s rail network. Along with three new passenger trains linking Aizawl to Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati, the Ministry of Railways is also set to launch freight train services. This will reduce logistics costs and enhance trade opportunities. This 51.38-km-long rail line is set to change the rail connectivity in the Northeast. The railway project will further improve connectivity and boost economic growth in the region.

Meghana wins bronze in women’s air rifle as India finishes fifth [14 Sep 2025]
India’s Meghana Sajjanar, competing in her first world final in eight years, clinched bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle. This marked her first-ever World Cup medal and helped India finish the season-ending International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Ningbo, China, in fifth place on the medal tally with one gold and one bronze.

Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati Assumes Charge as Director of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi [13 Sep 2025]
Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati formally assumed charge as the Director of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. Prior to this appointment, Prof. Prajapati served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur. He has also been associated for a long period with Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, contributing significantly to research and academic development. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur.

Justice M Sundar sworn in as tenth Chief Justice of Manipur High Court [13 Sep 2025]
Justice M Sundar was sworn in as the tenth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office to him during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Imphal. Justice Sundar, who was previously a judge with the Madras High Court, was appointed to the new role by the President on September 13, 2025, following the superannuation of the incumbent, Justice Kempaiah Somashekar.

C P Radhakrishnan takes oath as 15th Vice President of India [12 Sep 2025]
Chandrapuram Ponnusami Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th Vice President of India. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Radhakrishnan’s electoral breakthrough came in the aftermath of the 1998 Coimbatore bombings, when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore. He was re-elected in 1999 and served as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on textiles. During his Parliamentary career, he also represented India at the UN General Assembly in 2004 and was part of the first Indian parliamentary delegation to Taiwan. Before becoming the Vice President of India, he was the Governor of Maharashtra.

Sushila Karki becomes Nepal’s first female interim Prime Minister [12 Sep 2025]
Sushila Karki, Nepal’s former Chief Justice, took oath as the country’s interim Prime Minister, making history as the first woman to hold the nation’s top executive post. The oath of office was administered by President Ramchandra Paudel at a formal ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas, the presidential residence in Kathmandu. Karki’s appointment follows the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who stepped down earlier this week after mounting pressure from a nationwide movement led by Gen Z activists. The youth-driven movement, frustrated with political corruption and stagnant governance, demanded a neutral figure to guide Nepal through a transitional phase.

India takes part in Coast Guard Global Summit in Rome [12 Sep 2025]
At the 4th CGGS held in Rome on September 11-12, a two-member ICG delegation led by Director General Paramesh Sivamani delivered a lecture on the force’s tactical response to fire emergencies, highlighting India’s expertise in maritime safety and emergency response. India has pitched to host the next edition of the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) in 2027, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening global maritime governance and positioning the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as a key partner in ensuring safer and cleaner seas.
