The Fifth Assembly of the International Solar Alliance was inaugurated today by Shri Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, India in his capacity as the President, of the International Solar Alliance. The Republic of India holds the office of the President of the ISA Assembly, with the Government of France as Co-President. Ministers from 20 countries and delegates from across 110 Member and Signatory countries and 18 prospective countries joined the inaugural ceremony of the 5th ISA Assembly.

Shehan Karunatilaka Wins Booker Prize 2022 for 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida'
Sri Lankan novelist Shehan Karunatilaka won the Booker Prize for fiction 2022 for his book The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida as Britain's Queen Camilla presented the coveted honour to Shehan in London. Karunatilaka is the second Sri Lankan-born author to win the Booker Prize since it was founded in 1969, following Michael Ondaatje, whose novel "The English Patient" won in 1992. The Booker-winning novel tells the story of a dead war photo¬grapher on a mission in the afterlife.

Global Hunger Report 2022
A consistent effort is yet again visible to taint India’s image as a Nation that does not fulfill the food security and nutritional requirements of its population. Misinformation seems to be the hallmark of the annually released Global Hunger Index. The Global Hunger Report 2022 released by Concern Worldwide and Welt Hunger Hilfe, Non-Government Organisations from Ireland and Germany respectively, has ranked India at 107 among 121 countries. The index is an erroneous measure of hunger and suffers from serious methodological issues. Three out of the four indicators used for the calculation of the index are related to the health of Children and cannot be representative of the entire population. The fourth and most important indicator estimate of the Proportion of the Undernourished (PoU) population is based on an opinion poll conducted on a very small sample size of 3000.

Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board approved a new tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board approved a new reserve for tigers in Madhya Pradesh. The 2,339 square kilometers new tiger reserve, to be called Durgavati Tiger Reserve, will spread across Narisinghpur, Damoh, and Sagar districts. A green corridor linking Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) with Durgavati will be developed for the natural movement of the tiger to the new reserve. The Board's meeting, chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, approved a proposal to notify 1,414 sq km area as core area and 925 sq km as a buffer in the new tiger reserve.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2022 to Ben S. Bernanke (The Brookings Institution, Washington DC, USA), Douglas W. Diamond (University of Chicago, IL, USA), and Philip H. Dybvig (Washington University in St. Louis, MO, USA) "for research on banks and financial crises".
China launched its first comprehensive solar Observatory
China launched its first comprehensive solar probe, the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO- S) atop a Long March-2D carrier rocket from northwest China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. China's ASO-S has been nicknamed Kuafu-1. It's the world’s first near-Earth satellite telescope to simultaneously monitor solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and the sun's magnetic field. The instruments on board the observatory include a magnetograph to study the Sun's magnetic field, an X-ray imager for studying the high-energy radiations released by electrons accelerated in solar flares, and a coronagraph which will look at the Sun in the ultraviolet visible range.
PM declares Modhera as India's First Solar Powered Village
The Prime Minister declared the village of Modhera as India's first 24x7 solar-powered village. The earlier Modhera was known as Surya Mandir but now Surya Mandir has inspired Saur Gram and that has made a place on the environment and energy map of the world.

Government approves creation of Weapon Systems branch in Indian Air Force
In a historic step for the Indian Air Force (IAF), Government has approved the creation of a new branch, called the Weapon Systems (WS) branch. The creation of WS branch would entail the unification of all weapon system operators under one entity dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and specialist airborne weapon systems. The branch would encompass operators in four specialized streams of Surface-to-Surface missiles, Surface-to-Air missiles, Remotely Piloted Aircraft, and Weapon System Operators in twin/multi-crew aircraft. The branch will contribute immensely by enhancing the warfighting capability of the Indian Air Force.

The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2022 is awarded to the French author Annie Ernaux "for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory". In her writing, Ernaux consistently and from different angles, examines a life marked by strong disparities regarding gender, language, and class. Her path to authorship was long and arduous.
Harmanpreet Singh Named FIH Player of the Year for Second Consecutive Year
Indian defender Harmanpreet Singh was chosen for the FIH Player of the Year honour in the men's category for the second successive time. He became just the fourth player to win the Player of the Year award (men's category) in consecutive years, joining an elite list that includes Teun De Nooijer (Netherlands), Jamie Dwyer (Australia), and Arthur van Doren (Belgium). Harmanpreet's total points tally for the FIH Player of the year award stood at 29-4 points, followed by Thierry Brinkmann with 23-6 points and Tom Boon with 23-4 points.
In the Women's category, Felice Albers of the Nether¬lands was named the FIH Player of the Year. The 22-year-old became the youngest winner of the FIH Player of the Year award (women's category) since Germany's Natascha Keller (1999).
RBI launched its advanced supervisory monitoring system
Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a new 'SupTech' initiative DAKSH—the bank's Advanced Supervisory Monitoring System, which is expected to make the supervisory processes more effective and powerful. DAKSH means 'efficient' & 'competent', reflecting the underlying capabilities of the application. The new system is a web-based end-to-end workflow application through which RBI shall monitor compliance requirements in a more focused manner with the objective of further improving the compliance culture in Supervised Entities (SEs) like Banks, NBFCs, etc.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally inducted the indigenously-developed Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) in the Indian Air Force at a ceremony held at Air Force Station, Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The LCH named 'Prachanda' would be inducted into the 143 Helicopter Unit. Prachanda LCH developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) is a state-of-the-art modern combat helicopter, primarily designed for deployment in high-altitude regions. LCH is the only attack helicopter in the world that can land and take off at an altitude of 5,000 m with a considerable load of weapons and fuel. This helicopter is powered by two Shakti engines and is equipped with stealth features, all-weather combat capability, armor protection, night attack capability, and crash-worthy landing gear.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020 to the legendary actress Ms. Asha Parekh. The award will be presented at the National Film Award ceremony in New Delhi. Ms. Asha Parekh is a renowned film actress, director and producer, and an accomplished Indian classical dancer. Starting her career as a child actor she made her debut as the lead heroine in Dil Deke Dekho and has gone on to act in over 95 movies. She has acted in celebrated films like Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Aan Milo Sajna, and Mera Gaon Mera Desh. Ms. Asha Parekh was conferred the Padma Shri in 1992. She also served as the head of the Central Board for Film Certification from 1998-2001.

India had come a long way in the Global Innovation Index (GII) from the 81st spot in 2015 to the 40th spot in 2022. The Global Innovation Index (GII) is published by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
PM declares 36th National Games open in Ahmedabad
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi declared the 36th National Games open at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. National Games are being held in the state of Gujarat for the very first time. It will be organised from 29th September to 12th October 2022. Nearly 15,000 sportspersons, coaches, and officials from across the country will be participating in 36 sports disciplines, making it the biggest National Games ever. The sporting events will be organised in six cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. Under the leadership of the then Chief Minister and the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat embarked on the journey to create a robust sports infrastructure of international standards, which helped the state to prepare for the games in a very short span of time.
Ex-Air Chief Marshal R. K. S. Bhadauria appointed as Chief Nodal Officer of Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor
The Central Government has appointed former Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria as Chief Nodal Officer for the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) project. The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) is a project under the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The corridor has six nodes—Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur, and Lucknow. The project is expected to reduce the foreign dependency on the Indian aerospace and defense sector.
Scientists in China Create World's First Cloned Wild Arctic Wolf 'Maya'
The Beijing-based company Sinogene Biotechnology unveiled the female Arctic wolf clone named Maya by scientists, marking 100 days since she was born on June 10, 2022. Sinogene launched its Arctic wolf cloning project in 2020, in collaboration with the polar theme park Harbin Polarland. To create Maya, the company used a process called somatic cell nuclear transfer the same technique that was used to create the first-ever mammal clone, Dolly the sheep, in 1996. The donor cell of the wolf came from the skin sample of a wild female Arctic wolf and its oocyte was taken from a female dog. Maya's surrogate mother was a beagle, a dog breed. The dog was selected as the surrogate as it shares genetic ancestry with ancient wolves. The Arctic wolf, also known as the white wolf or polar wolf, is a subspecies of grey wolf native to the High Arctic tundra, in Canada's northern Arctic Archipelago.

The President appointed senior advocate R. Venkataramani as the new Attorney General of India for a period of three years from the 1st of October, 2022. He succeeded Mr. K. K. Venugopal.
