India's First of its Kind Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park Launched in Bengaluru [25 Mar 2022]

India's first Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) for creating a better world through an inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Robotics revolution have been inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was launched by the Government of Karnataka's Minister for Information, Biotechnology and Science and Technology, Dr. C. N. Ashwath Narayan. It is a joint initiative of IISc Bengaluru and AL Foundry, Bengaluru in a public-private collaborative model to promote technological innovations in the field of AI & Robotics. ARTPARK, is a one-of-its-kind, not-for-profit foundation with a total seed capital of Rs.230 crore, which is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India with Rs. 170 crore and the Government of Karnataka with T 60 crore to create cutting edge innovations in terms of new technologies, standards, products, services, and intellectual properties outside of India.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is in India (first visit India since assuming office last year) for two days to attend the bilateral summit. He was received at the Delhi airport by Ashwini Vaishnaw (Railways Minister) on 18 March, 2022. The Indian Prime Minister held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on 19 March 2022 for the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. This summit is regarded as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Japan. The previous India-Japan annual summit took place in October 2018 between PM Modi and the then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Karolina Bielawska from Poland was crowned Miss World 2021 at the 70th edition of the Miss World beauty pageant in San Juan, Puerto Rico beating 96 contestants across the globe. Bielawska was crowned the Miss World title by her predecessor Toni- Ann Singh of Jamaica at the finale. This is the second MissWorld title for Poland.

36th International Geological Congress to be held in New Delhi [16 Mar 2022]

The 36th International Geological Congress (IGC), themed “Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future” will be held here during 20-22 March 2022 on a virtual platform. The 36th IGC is a joint endeavour of the Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, and the Science Academies of Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Described as the Olympics of Geosciences, the IGCs are held quadrennial, under the aegis of the International Union of Geological Congress (IUGS), the Scientific Sponsor of the IGCs. They draw participants to the tune of around 5000 - 7000 delegates from all over the world.The event would provide a unique platform for knowledge and experience sharing in the field of geosciences and professional networking. It would give first-hand information on the latest technologies in mining, mineral exploration, and management of water, mineral resource, and the environment. It would also facilitate increased academic production and create opportunities for capacity building across geoscientific streams.

Katalin Novak Becomes Hungary's First-ever Female President [12 Mar 2022]

The Hungarian Parliament elected the ruling Fidesz Party lawmaker, Katalin Novak, as President. By winning the election, she has become Hungary's youngest-ever head of state at the age of 44. She received 137 votes (a 2/3rd majority) against her opposition rival, Peter Rona, an economist, who received 52 votes.

Chief Justice D. N. Patel of Delhi HC Appointed as Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) [12 Mar 2022]

The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification regarding the approval of this appointment by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), stating that he will serve the chair for a period of 4 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or till attaining the age of 70 years, until further orders, whichever is the earliest. The conditions of his service will be governed by the provisions of the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021 and Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules 2021.

Cabinet approves establishment of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India [09 Mar 2022]

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat by signing a Host Country agreement between the Government of India and the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO GCTM will be established in Jamnagar under the Ministry of AYUSH. This would be the first and only global outposted Centre (office) for traditional medicine across the globe.

Former Finance and Revenue Secretary A.B. Pandey Appointed as NFRA Chairperson [08 Mar 2022]

The Government of India(GOI) appointed Ajay Bhushan Pandey, former Finance and Revenue Secretary of India, Ministry of Finance, as the new Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment for a period of three years from the date of assumption charge or till he attains the age of 65 years.

HANSA-NG successfully completes sea level trials at Puducherry [06 Mar 2022]

India’s first indigenous Flying Trainer HANSA-NG designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, has successfully completed the sea level trials at Puducherry from 19th February to 5th March 2022. The aircraft was flown to Puducherry covering 140 nautical miles in one and half hours at a cruising speed of 155 km/hr on 19th February 22. The objectives of sea level trials were to evaluate handling qualities, climb / cruise performance, balked landing, structural performance including positive & negative G, power plant, and other systems performance. CSIR-NAL sources said that all the objectives of the sea level trials are met and the aircraft has been ferried back to Bangalore on 5th March 2022 after completing 18 hours of flying at Puducherry. The aircraft was piloted by Wg. Cdr. K V Prakash and Wg. Cdr. Dilip Reddy of ASTE. The flight was monitored by CSIR-NAL designers and Wg. Cdr. Reeju Chakraborty as Flight Test Director from telemetry. HANSA-NG is one of the most advanced flying trainers powered by Rotax Digital Control Engine with unique features like Just-In-Time Prepreg (JIPREG) Composite lightweight Airframe, Glass Cockpit, Bubble Canopy with wide panoramic view, electrically operated flaps, etc. CSIR-NAL further said that HANSA-NG is designed to meet the Indian flying club needs and it is an ideal aircraft for Commercial Pilot Licensing (CPL) due to its low cost and low fuel consumption. NAL has already received more than 80 nos. of LoIs (Letter of Intents) from various flying clubs.

Ravi Mittal Appointed as the new Chairperson of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) [05 Mar 2022]

Ravi Mittal, former secretary of the department of sports is appointed early in February 2022, as the new Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) for a period of five years or till the age of 65 whichever is earlier. Ravi Mittal is a 1986 batch IAS officer from Bihar Cadre who has previously served as the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.It may be mentioned that IBBI was established on 1st October 2016, under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

India's 1st Indigenous Train Collision Avoidance Systems 'Kavach' Successfully Tested by Indian Railways [04 Mar 2022]

The Indigenously-developed India's first Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) 'Kavach' was successfully tested by Indian Railways. The test was conducted between Gullaguda-Chitgidda Railway stations on the Lingampalli-Vikarabad section in Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway while on board the locomotive, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Ministry of Railways, and Vinay Kumar Tripathi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board. This system will help, the Railways achieve the goal of 'zero accidents' as it enables the trains to stop on their own if the digital system notices any manual error like jumping of the red signal or another other malfunction.

India's biggest artificial reservoir Mallanna dedicated to Nation [23 Feb 2022]

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao dedicated to the nation 50TMCft capacity artificial reservoir Mallanna, which is claimed to be the country's biggest artificial reservoir. It is a key component of the World's largest lift irrigation project built by the Telangana government across the Godavari river. It will be filled entirely by lifting water from other sources and not with water received from its self-catchment area. The centrally located reservoir will irrigate 11-29 lakh acres in 10 districts and also cater to the drinking water and industrial needs of Hyderabad and surrounding districts.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Karnataka, has installed and commissioned 'Param Pravega' one of the most powerful supercomputers in India and the largest in an Indian academic institution under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). 1.The Param Pravega system is a mix of heterogeneous nodes, with Intel Xeon Cascade Lake processors for the Central Processing Unit (CPU) nodes and NVIDIA Tesla V100 cards on the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) nodes that has been designed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C- DAC).

Professor Neena Gupta receives Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians [22 Feb 2022]

The Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians was awarded to Professor Neena Gupta, a mathematician of the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, in a virtual ceremony on 22nd February 2022. She received the award for the year 2021 for her outstanding work in affine algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. The prize is awarded annually to a researcher from a developing country funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India in association with ICTP (International Centre for Theoretical Physics) and the International Mathematical Union (IMU). It is given to young mathematicians less than 45 years of age who have conducted outstanding research in a developing country. It is supported by DST in the memory of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a genius in pure mathematics who was essentially self-taught and made spectacular contributions to elliptic functions, continued fractions, infinite series, and analytical theory of numbers. Professor Gupta's solution for solving the Zariski cancellation problem, a fundamental problem in Algebraic Geometry, earned her the 2014 Young Scientists Award of the Indian National Science Academy (NSA). The NSA described her solution as ‘one of the best works in algebraic geometry in recent years done anywhere’. The problem was posed by one of the most eminent founders of modern Algebraic Geometry, Oscar Zariski, in 1949.

Israel Becomes first Country to Permit Drones in Civilian Airspace [21 Feb 2022]

Israel becomes the world's first country to allow drones to operate in civilian air space. The Ministry of Transport and Road Safety of Israel announced, the certification for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to operate in civilian air space. Hermes Starliner Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), is the first UAV to receive such a certification.

Asia's Biggest Bio-CNG Plant Gobar-Dhan Inaugurate in Indore [19 Feb 2022]

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the "Gobar-Dhan (Bio-CNG) Plant" in Indore via video conferencing. The Indore Bio-CNG plant has been constructed under the overarching principles of "waste to wealth" and "circular economy" for maximizing resource recovery. The Gobar-Dhan plant, with a capacity to treat 550 tonnes of segregated wet organic waste per day, is expected to produce around 17,000 kg CNG and 100 tonnes of organic compost every day.

Professor K. Umamheshwar Rao has assumed office as the new director of NIT Rourkela on February 18, 2022. He will be succeeding Prof. Simanchalo Panigrahi, who was appointed as the interim director in October 2021. Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao was previously serving as the Director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), also known as NIT Surathkal.
