DRDO develops new generation Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles for mine countermeasure missions
A new generation of Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs) has been successfully developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for mine countermeasure missions. The system comprises multiple AUVs equipped with Side Scan Sonar and Underwater cameras as primary payloads for real-time detection & classification of Mine-Like Objects. The onboard deep learning based target recognition algorithms enable autonomous classification, significantly reducing operator workload and mission time. Additionally, a robust underwater acoustic communication has been integrated to facilitate inter-AUV data exchange during operations, ensuring enhanced situational awareness. The recently-concluded field trials at NSTL/Harbour have successfully validated salient systems parameters and critical mission objectives. Multiple industry partners are involved in system realization, and the system will be ready for production in the next couple of months.
Classical Languages of India
The Government of India conferred the ‘Classical Language’ status to Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali languages on October 03, 2024. As of October 2025, a total of 11 Indian languages hold the status of Classical Language. Six Indian languages —Tamil, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Odia were earlier accorded the status of classical languages between 2004 to 2024.

Three Major Ports Recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs under National Green Hydrogen Mission
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has formally recognised three major ports Deendayal Port Authority (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (Tamil Nadu), and Paradip Port Authority (Odisha) as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). This recognition marks a significant step towards creating an integrated hydrogen ecosystem and advancing India’s transition towards clean energy. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched by the Government of India, aims to position the country as a global hub for the production, utilisation, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The Mission promotes the development of large-scale hydrogen hubs to serve as focal points for production and consumption, thereby facilitating the establishment of a sustainable and competitive hydrogen economy.

Their discoveries have led to new ways of storing gases, separating chemicals, and catalysing reactions, with potential applications in energy, environmental protection, and medicine.
Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar Yaghi are awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2025. They have developed a new form of molecular architecture. In their constructions, metal ions function as cornerstones that are linked by long organic (carbon-based) molecules. Together, the metal ions and molecules are organised to form crystals that contain large cavities. These porous materials are called metal–organic frameworks (MOF). By varying the building blocks used in the MOFs, chemists can design them to capture and store specific substances. MOFs can also drive chemical reactions or conduct electricity.
