  • 3rd Session of India-Zimbabwe Joint Trade Committee held in New Delhi [15 May 2024]

    Third Session of India-Zimbabwe Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held in New Delhi from 13.05.2024 to 14.05.2024 under the co-chairpersonship of Economic Adviser, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Ms. Priya P. Nair and Chief Director, Economic Cooperation, International Trade and Diaspora, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Ms. Rudo. M. Faranisi. Charge d'Affaires, Embassy of Zimbabwe, Mr. Peter Hobwani along with over 15 delegates from relevant Ministries accompanied the Zimbabwean delegation. The discussions were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. There was an enthusiastic response towards greater cooperation, addressing pending issues, boosting trade and investment and greater people to people contacts.

  • First set of citizenship certificates after notification of Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 issued [15 May 2024]

    The first set of citizenship certificates after notification of Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 were issued today. Union Home Secretary Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla handed over citizenship certificates to some applicants in New Delhi today. The Home Secretary congratulated the applicants and highlighted salient features of the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024. Secretary Posts, Director (IB), Registrar General of India, and senior officers were also present during the interactive session.

    The Government of India had notified Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 on 11th March 2024. The Rules envisage the manner of application form, the procedure for processing applications by the District Level Committee (DLC), and the scrutiny and grant of citizenship by the State Level Empowered Committee (EC). In pursuance of these rules, applications have been received from persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who have entered India up to 31.12.2014 on account of persecution on grounds of religion or fear of such persecution.

    The District Level Committees (DLCs) chaired by Senior Superintendents of Post/Superintendents of Post as designated officers, on successful verification of documents, have administered oath of allegiance to the applicants. After processing as per rules, DLCs have forwarded the applications to the State Level Empowered Committee headed by the Director (Census operation). Processing of applications is completely done through the online portal.

  • Maiden India Pavilion at World Hydrogen Summit 2024, Netherlands showcases National Green Hydrogen Mission [14 May 2024]

    For the first time, India has set up its pavilion, at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, being held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, during May 13 – 15, 2024. The India Pavilion, set up by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, is one of the largest pavilions at the Summit and was inaugurated by Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Bhupinder S. Bhalla on May 12, 2024.

    The World Hydrogen Summit is a prestigious event in the global green hydrogen ecosystem. Around 15,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the Summit. The India Pavilion at the conference provides India an opportunity to showcase to the world the progress made by the country in the field of Green Hydrogen.

    India launched its National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023 with an overall outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores. India has set an ambitious target to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonnes) by the end of the year 2030. As on date, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has awarded tenders for setting up of 412,000 tonnes of Green Hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity. India has also notified scheme guidelines for the use of Green Hydrogen in steel, transport/mobility, and shipping sectors. The Department of Science and Technology has initiated Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters to foster innovation and promote the Green Hydrogen ecosystem in India.

  • India- France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI [13 May 2024]

    The 7th edition of India- France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI commenced today, at Umroi, in a fully developed and modern Foreign Training Node in Meghalaya. The Exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 13th to 26th May 2024. The Opening Ceremony of the joint exercise was attended by H.E. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, and Major General Prasanna Sudhakar Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area. Exercise SHAKTI is a biennial training event conducted alternatively in India and France. The last edition was conducted in France in November 2021. Indian contingent comprising 90 personnel is being represented primarily by a Battalion of the RAJPUT Regiment besides personnel from other arms and services. Observers from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force will also form part of the exercise. The French contingent comprising 90 personnel will be represented mainly by personnel from the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE). Exercise SHAKTI aims to enhance the joint military capability of both sides to undertake multi-domain operations in a sub-conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The joint exercise will focus on operations in the semi-urban and mountainous terrain. Objectives to be achieved from the joint training are a high degree of physical fitness, rehearsing and refining drills for operations at the tactical level, and sharing of best practices.

  • Retail Inflation Eases to 4.83% in April, 2024 [13 May 2024]

    The annual inflation rate based on all India Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers is 4.83% (Provisional) for April 2024 (over April 2023). The corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban areas are 5.43% and 4.11%, respectively. CPI for January, February, and March 2024 are 5.10, 5.09, and 4.85 respectively. Among the top five groups, the year-on-year inflation on groups ‘Clothing & Footwear’, ‘Housing’ and ‘Fuel & light’ has decreased since last month.

  • India's Index of Industrial Production grows by 4.9 % in March 2024 [10 May 2024]

    For March 2024, the Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 2011-12 stands at 159.2. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity sectors for March 2024 stand at 156.1, 155.1, and 204.2 respectively. These Quick Estimates will undergo revision in subsequent releases as per the revision policy of IIP. The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) are released on the 12th of every month (or the previous working day if the 12th is a holiday) with a six-week lag and compiled with data received from source agencies, which in turn receive the data from the producing factories/ establishments. The IIP growth rate for March 2024 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 4.9 percent. The growth rates of the three sectors, Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity for the month of March 2024 over March 2023 are 1.2 percent, 5.2 percent, and 8.6 percent respectively. Within the manufacturing sector, the growth rate of the top three positive contributors to the growth of IIP for the month of March 2024 is – “Manufacture of basic metals” (7.7%), “Manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical, and botanical products” (16.7%), and “Manufacture of other transport equipment” (25.4%).
